How do I know when it’s time to change my engine oil?
Here are a few simple steps that you can take, in order, to figure out the answer. Check them out here!
1. Look for the oil change light: You’ll find this icon on your dashboard, and it’s a pretty reliable indicator that it’s time to bring your Lexus into the service center. Schedule an appointment!
2. Examine the oil dipstick: But this step requires a bit more work. Pop the hood, locate your dipstick, remove it, and check the levels. If it’s below the indicated line, we can help you.
3. Consistency, Noise, and Smell: Finally, there are three important additional factors: oil consistency, engine noise, and burning smell. If you look at the dipstick, and the oil is either gritty or black, then it’s time for a change; if your engine is making unusual screeching or grinding sounds while you’re driving, then it’s time for a change; and if you smell the nasty smell of burning oil while you’re on the road, then it’s time for a change. Of course, if you can’t remember the last time that you took your vehicle into the shop, then that’s probably a sign in and of itself. It’s important to have a professional look at your car every so often.
