About Palace Theatre

Since its establishment in 1914, the Palace Theatre has been a staple in the New Hampshire area. Modeled after its cousin of the same namesake in New York City, the Palace Theatre was known for its dazzling décor and premium interior—and, at the time, was considered the only first-class theatre in New Hampshire that was fireproof and air conditioned.

For over 100 years, the Palace Theatre has been the go-to place for live entertainment. For a short period of time in the 1960s, the Palace Theatre performed no shows but, instead, was used as classroom space for the local college. By 1974, opening night was celebrated once again with new renovations and orchestra seating.

The ‘80s proved to be a tough time, too. In 1980, a pipe burst, and 70,000 gallons of water gushed through the theatre. Still, it didn’t falter. Only four years later, a fire ripped through the street. Thanks to the firewall built into the structure, no damage was done.

Through lack of attendance, fire, and flood, the Palace Theatre still stands tall and strong among the community.
